10 Weeks, 0 Jobs Bills by GOP

The Republican answer to jobs thus far has been a "So Be It" spending bill that would in fact destroy 700,000 jobs and jeopardize our economic growth. This week, it appears House Republicans are continuing to put partisan politics ahead of Americans' top priority – jobs. On the House floor, Republicans have scheduled two full days of debate on legislation that will weaken the middle class and worsen the foreclosure crisis, leaving hard-working homeowners under water and those struggling to find jobs in jeopardy of losing their homes. Republicans have no plan to strengthen the housing market and no answers for the foreclosure crisis.

In committees, Republicans are scheduled to hold 76 hearings this week and none of them answer the question: what is the Republicans' jobs plan? Some of the GOP committee action this week:

The Homeland Security Committee will hold a hearing on the "radicalization of American Muslims".

The Energy and Commerce Committee will hold a hearing on health care funding and employer-provided health care.

The Financial Services Committee will mark up additional legislation to weaken the housing market.

The Energy and Commerce Committee will markup a bill to stop the Federal Communications Commission's open internet rule.

Other hearing topics include patent law judicial decisions, national Flood Insurance program, and private sector participation in passenger rail service.

After two years of talk from Republicans about jobs, it appears to be the last thing on their minds. In fact, the only votes in Congress this year on job creation have been Democratic proposals and opposed by Republicans:

The Build America Bonds Create Jobs Now Act to leverage public dollars to strengthen the private sector, growing our economy by rebuilding America's schools, hospitals, and transit projects, supported by American businesses, the construction industry, mayors and governors. 100% of House Republicans voted no, twice.
