Pelosi Statement on Retirement of SFSU President Leslie Wong

"President Leslie Wong's tenure at San Francisco State University has been marked by a relentless commitment to inclusion, equality and progress in our higher education system.  He has been an outstanding champion for all students, particularly under-served communities and veterans, honoring our city's belief that ‘the beauty is in the mix.'

"From day one, President Wong brought great vision to this role.  His leadership of Metro Academies College Success initiatives, bolstering the University's partnership with City College of San Francisco, and his championing of Pell Grants have helped ensure that every person can get a high-quality education that gives them the tools to succeed.  Deeply understanding the importance of engagement with our city and with the world, he has helped advance key investments in our AAPI community and built bridges to institutions of higher education abroad.

"President Wong has dedicated his full life and career to students in universities across America.  He will be greatly missed by his many friends, colleagues and mentees, in San Francisco and throughout the country.  Paul and I wish him and Phyllis well as they begin the next chapter of their lives."
