Pelosi Statement on Bipartisan Alexander-Murray Agreement

October 17, 2017
San Francisco – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi issued this statement after Senators Lamar Alexander and Patty Murray reached a bipartisan agreement to stabilize insurance marketplaces and lower costs for families:

"The bipartisan Alexander-Murray agreement unveiled today is good news for families across America.  This plan takes strong and urgently-needed first steps to stabilize the insurance marketplaces, lower premiums and provides additional state flexibility while ensuring protections for those living with pre-existing conditions and for low-income populations.  The agreement also restores $106 million for outreach activities to bolster enrollment in ACA marketplaces.

"As our Caucus reviews the final agreement, we thank Senator Murray for honoring our principles and priorities in the negotiations.  We are grateful that the agreement undoes some of the sabotage measures President Trump has proposed.

"House Democrats have long stood ready to work with Republicans to bring affordable, quality care to all Americans.  As this proposal heads toward Senate passage, we call upon Speaker Ryan to ensure swift passage of this bipartisan agreement in the House."
