Pelosi Statement on the 46th Anniversary of the Clean Water Act

October 17, 2018
Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement to mark the 46th anniversary of the landmark Clean Water Act:

"For 46 years, the Clean Water Act's vital protections have safeguarded the life-saving clean water that grows our food, preserves our diverse ecosystems and protects the health of our children and families.  Yet, clean, safe water is now under assault from a corrupt Republican special interest agenda that puts the profits of big polluters ahead of the health and safety of hard-working American families.

"From pulling out of the Paris Agreement, pushing reckless executive orders to undermine clean air and clean water, to giving dirty power plants the green light to pollute our communities, Republicans are forcing our children and grandchildren to foot the bill for their massive giveaways to their corporate polluter friends and big donors.  Congressional Republicans remain complicit in the Administration's rampant culture of corruption, cronyism and incompetence that is undermining the beauty of God's creation and threatening the health and financial security of communities across America.

"Forty-six years after this landmark achievement, Democrats remain committed to protecting our environment and the life-sustaining clean water we all rely on.  We are committed to standing firm against reckless Republican assaults on our nation's clean, sustainable future as we fight For The People by lowering the cost of health care, raising wages by rebuilding America and cleaning up corruption to make Washington work for everyone."
