Pelosi Statement on President Trump’s Latest Attack on Americans with Pre-Existing Conditions

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi issued this statement after the Trump Administration announced its plan to use Section 1332 waivers to encourage junk health plans, that can discriminate against people with pre-existing conditions and fail to cover essential health benefits:

"Every day, Republicans further expose their brutal agenda to destroy Americans' health care. President Trump is once again cynically pushing families into shoddy junk plans that can discriminate against pre-existing conditions and that do not cover essential health benefits, while making dependable health coverage more expensive for everyone else.

"Americans' health care will never be safe while Republicans control Washington. Senator McConnell has already promised that continued GOP control of Congress means a revived campaign to steal health insurance from tens of millions of families, impose a massive age tax on seniors, gut protections for those with pre-existing conditions and eviscerate Medicare and Medicaid.

"American families deserve a government that fights for them. Democrats are For The People: lowering health costs and prescription drug prices, increasing pay and driving growth by rebuilding America and cleaning up corruption to make Washington work for the people."
