GOP on Ryan-McConnell Tax Cuts for Wealthy: 'Is $1 Million Rich?'

Today on Fox Business, House Budget Committee Chairwoman Diane Black tried to sell the Ryan McConnell tax plan under the false pretense that it ‘socks it' to the rich.  However, the Tax Policy Center's analysis shows the highest-income households would in fact reap the most rewards in tax cuts while millions of middle class working families would see an increase in their taxes.

House Budget Committee Chairwoman Diane Black: I'm always careful about calling people rich – because what is ‘rich'?  Is $1 million rich?  Is $10 million rich?  Is $1 billion rich?

Yes, Chairwoman, all of those would be considered ‘rich'.  And just how much would the rich benefit from the GOP tax plan?  By 2027, 80 percent of the tax cuts would benefit the top 1 percent, while more than one of every four middle-income families would pay more in taxes.

Republicans in Congress have confirmed over and over again the Ryan-McConnell tax framework hands a massive tax break to the rich, while raising taxes on hard-working families.  It's time for the GOP set aside their special-interest agenda and work with Democrats on real bipartisan tax reform middle class Americans deserve.
