Pelosi to Represent United States at First Parliamentary Summit of the International Crimea Platform
Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi will represent the United States in Zagreb, Croatia at the First Parliamentary Summit of the International Crimea Platform. Ukraine established the International Crimea Platform in 2021 with the goal of restoring Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity. The inaugural Parliamentary Summit, which will be held on October 25th, will focus on Russia's aggression against Ukraine, including the illegal annexation of Crimea in 2014 and the ongoing, unjustified invasion that began in February 2022. Speaker Pelosi will engage in bilateral meetings with high-level Croatian and Ukrainian officials.
Congressman Gerry Connolly, as President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, has also been invited to participate in the Summit. Discussions will be centered on the international community's efforts to support the Ukrainian people while holding Russia accountable for its documented war crimes and attempted illegal annexations. Speaker Pelosi has been invited to address the Summit at the plenary session, where she will deliver a statement of America's unbreakable commitment to Ukraine.
"As Speaker, it is my privilege to join our European allies and other partners from around the globe in Croatia to deliver an unmistakable statement of our solidarity with the Ukrainian people," Speaker Nancy Pelosi said. "Vladimir Putin is waging an unprovoked, all-out assault on Ukraine: from the ongoing occupation of Crimea to his attempt to annex additional territories to his desperate and escalating targeting of civilians and civilian infrastructure. This week, America joins our democratic partners to reaffirm our pledge to stand with the Ukrainian people in their fight for freedom and to hold Russia accountable – until victory is won."
"Working with historic speed, strength and unity, the United States and our allies have imposed devastating consequences on Russia and delivered game-changing aid to Ukraine," Speaker Pelosi continued. "Our ironclad solidarity with the heroes of Ukraine has been decisive so far, and it will be even more crucial as winter approaches. Alongside NATO Parliamentary Assembly President Congressman Gerry Connolly, I look forward to discussing how we can further support Ukraine – because the fight for Ukraine is the fight for democracy itself."
Speaker Pelosi concluded: "Croatia is a key American ally, regional leader and NATO partner – and our engagements in Zagreb will deepen the bonds between our nations. America joins our allies in saluting Croatian Speaker Gordan Jandroković and Ukrainian Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk, as well as Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, for convening leaders of legislatures from the world's democracies for this timely and important Summit."
