Pelosi Statement on Terrorist Attack in Manhattan

October 31, 2017
Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released this statement after at least eight people were killed and fifteen injured in an horrific attack in lower Manhattan today:

"This evening, all Americans were horrified and heartbroken by the despicable act of terror in Manhattan.  Tonight and in the days ahead, we join in mourning the dead, praying for the wounded, and sending our love to the people of New York City.

"We are deeply grateful for the first responders, whose selfless response ended this tragic attack before more lives were brutally cut short.  As we await further news, we must continue to be smart and strong to keep the American people safe, not reckless and rash.  Our nation's courage and resilience will always defeat the hatred and violence of terrorists.

"May it be a comfort to those grieving tonight that so many around the country mourn in solidarity with them."
