GOP Still in Denial Over Ryan-McConnell Tax 'Plan'

Since the unveiling of the Ryan-McConnell tax framework, President Trump and Congressional Republicans have touted the plan as a ‘middle class miracle':

"We want to give every middle income family in America a tax cut." – Speaker Paul Ryan

"We want to lower taxes at every level." – Rep. Kevin Brady, Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee

However, by raising taxes on the middle class, repealing the estate tax (paid only by the top .2 percent) and adding trillions to the deficit, this ‘historic' tax plan is only a miracle for the rich – increasing the tax burden on working families by lifting the load off of the wealthiest ones.  But that's just another detail that Speaker Ryan and his fellow Republicans aren't touting.

Well, Mr. President, it appears as though you can stop worrying about rich friends calling to complain. They're going to do juuuust fine under your plan, and so are you, as evidenced by an analysis released by the Tax Policy Center.  They and you will do disproportionately better, in fact, then the lower-class taxpayers you said were the focus of your tax cuts.

LA Times Editorial: Republicans' 'death tax' fixation tells you all you need to know about their concern for the working class

[Repealing the estate tax] is a bit like telling people you've got a plan to end homelessness, and a key piece of it is building more luxury condominiums.

The vast majority of American families aren't touched by the tax; according to the congressional Joint Committee on Taxation, only 0.2% of U.S. estates were expected to pay it in 2017.

Republicans must stop their dishonesty and join Democrats in giving the American people real tax reform that creates jobs, grows the economy and demands not one penny in tax cuts for the top 1 percent.
