Pelosi Statement on First Day of Open Enrollment in the Health Insurance Marketplaces Across the Country

November 1, 2019

Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi released this statement on the first day of open enrollment for Affordable Care Act marketplaces for 2020, which runs from November 1 through December 15 for 44 states, with 6 states and D.C. having longer enrollment periods:

"Today, with the start of the 2020 open enrollment period across the country, millions of Americans can once again access quality, affordable health care coverage for themselves and their families through the Affordable Care Act's Health Insurance Marketplaces. Whether signing up for a new plan or making changes to existing coverage, hard-working Americans can use this period to ensure that they have the benefits and protections they need to stay healthy and thrive.

"The Affordable Care Act stands as a pillar of health and economic security for millions of Americans. Last year, more than eight out of ten people in the Marketplaces received a tax credit to help cover the cost of coverage. Similarly, this year, it is projected that more than 80 percent of individuals will be able to find plans for less than $100 per month. Also, in some states, additional plans are available this year.

"While Republicans continue their relentless health care sabotage, House Democrats are acting boldly to lower the cost of coverage and the price of prescription drugs, and safeguard benefits for the 130 million Americans with a pre-existing condition. As millions of Americans enroll in quality, affordable health care plans, we will continue our work to ensure that health care remains a right, not a privilege, for all."
