Pelosi Statement on Nomination of Andrew Wheeler for EPA Administrator

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement after President Trump nominated acting-Administrator Andrew Wheeler to become EPA Administrator, replacing former Administrator Scott Pruitt who resigned in disgrace last July:

"President Trump's nomination of Andrew Wheeler to head the Environmental Protection Agency perpetuates the unprecedented culture of corruption, cronyism and abuse of taxpayer money at the heart of this Administration.

"Instead of nominating a qualified individual dedicated to safeguarding the clean air our children breathe and the water they drink, President Trump has elevated a coal lobbyist who is firmly in the pocket of big polluters and special interests. Along with the rest of Trump's Toxic Team, Andrew Wheeler continues to advance Scott Pruitt's campaign to weaken critical, life-saving environmental protections, while undermining the health and safety of our communities.

"The American people deserve an EPA dedicated to protecting and preserving our environment for future generations. Democrats are ready to oppose the Administration's dirty energy agenda and will continue to work For The People to clean up corruption to ensure our government works for everyone."
