Pelosi Statement on the Passing of Former Congressman Maurice Hinchey

"Congressman Maurice Hinchey was a patriot and an unwavering champion of hard-working American families.  He bravely served our country in the U.S. Navy, and continued to serve the American people in the New York State Assembly and the House of Representatives.  Now, he leaves us with a legacy of leadership and a lifetime of public service that embody the best of America.

"During his 20 years of service in the House of Representatives, Congressman Hinchey built a record as a fierce defender of the environment and strong advocate for our men and women in uniform.  As a long-time member of the Appropriations Committee, Congressman Hinchey was a tireless progressive champion for American families, all while earning the friendship and respect of colleagues on both sides of the aisle.
