Pelosi Announces Democratic Caucus Approves Creation of Committee Vice Ranking Members

January 13, 2017
Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement after the House Democratic Caucus unanimously approved an amendment to caucus rules that will create the position of Vice Ranking Members for standing committees.  The Vice Ranking Member shall be a newer member of the committee, elected by the Democratic membership of the committee.

"With our new Vice Ranking Members, House Democrats are harnessing the great and dynamic leadership of our Members at every level.  These new positions will provide more representation of the diversity of our Caucus, and strengthen our fight on behalf of hard-working Americans.

"Congressman Joe Kennedy and Congressman Derek Kilmer brought this proposal to me immediately following the election.  They have worked diligently to build consensus for this proposal and their leadership in doing so speaks to their commitment to furthering opportunities for newer Members in our Caucus.  On behalf of the Caucus, I thank them both for their efforts."
