Pelosi Statement on New ITEP Analysis: GOP Tax Bill Raises Taxes on 22 Million Middle Class Households

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement on the new analysis conducted by the non-partisan Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy that finds that more than 22 million households earning under $150,500 will see a tax hike under the Ryan-McConnell tax bill:

"The truth is already catching up with Republicans' snake oil tax pitch. While Republicans sell empty promises to the American people, a new non-partisan analysis has revealed that the Ryan-McConnell tax bill raises taxes on more than 22 million middle class households.

"Republicans are rushing forward with a bill that raises taxes on middle class families in order to give even bigger tax breaks to big corporations shipping American jobs overseas. And every day, we learn more about the devastating tax hikes Republicans have hidden in their tax bill targeting students, teachers, seniors, people with long-term care needs, and middle class families.

"The American people want bipartisan tax reform that puts the middle class first, not a deficit-exploding handout to corporations and the wealthy that raises taxes on millions of middle class families."
