Pelosi Statement on Congresswoman Cindy Axne

November 9, 2022

Washington, D.C. — Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement on the election result in Iowa's 3rd Congressional District:

"Congresswoman Cindy Axne is a devoted, relentlessly effective voice for her constituents. As a parent, small business owner and tireless community activist, she has brought invaluable insight to her service in the House – quickly earning the admiration of her colleagues.

"Whether as a mom fighting to win universal kindergarten in her local school district or as southwest Iowa's proud Representative in Congress, she has fought to build a brighter future for everyone in her community. As Vice Chair of the Committee on Financial Services' Subcommittee on Housing, Community Development and Insurance, Congresswoman Axne has been a key leader in House Democrats' fight to combat housing instability amid the pandemic. A fifth-generation Iowan who spent childhood summers on her grandparents' Warren County farm, she has also been a passionate advocate for Iowa farmers on the Agriculture Committee.

"Congresswoman Axne will be deeply missed by her colleagues. House Democrats wish her and her husband John the very best in their next chapter."
