When President Trump tweeted last May that our country needed a ‘good shutdown,' OMB Director Mick Mulvaney wholeheartedly agreed.

Yesterday, Mulvaney reinforced Republicans' fondness for a government shutdown when he excitedly told Sean Hannity: ‘I found out for the first time last night that the person who technically shuts the government down is me, which is kind of cool.'

And now, Republicans want to shift blame for the government shutdown, but they have no one to blame but themselves.

The government shutdown this weekend is the first time a true, honest-to-God shutdown has happened with a single party controlling the White House and Congress.

A party needs to be in an impressive amount of disarray to control both houses of Congress and the presidency and still fail to fund the government. That's the situation the Republican Party finds itself in today.

Instead of pushing our nation into needless crisis, Republicans must join Democrats to end the government shutdown, by addressing the critical, long-overdue and bipartisan priorities of the American people.
