Dear Colleague on Path Forward to Passing the Build Back Better Act Into Law
Dear Democratic Colleague,
First and foremost, our work For The People demands that we stay at the table to pass the Build Back Better Act. While it is disappointing that we may not have a law by the end of the year, we are hopeful that we will soon reach agreement so that this vital legislation can pass as soon as possible next year.
For weeks, we have had House-Senate-White House agreement on the fundamental framework of Build Back Better. We have always tried to prioritize the most critical provisions when crafting this legislation: extending the Biden Child Tax Credit, investing in family care, securing universal pre-K and child care, expanding home health care, strengthening the Affordable Care Act and taking historic steps to combat the climate crisis, which are not only necessary but urgent.
What all these provisions have in common is that they lower costs. Build Back Better is a strong cost-cutting, inflation-fighting package: slashing the burdensome costs of health care, child care, family care, energy and so much more. Indeed, this transformative legislation meets the needs of our working families by lowering costs, cutting taxes and creating jobs – and is fully paid for by making the wealthiest and corporations pay their fair share.
This winter, we continue to battle the COVID pandemic. The daunting Omicron variant poses a threat to Americans' health and financial security. Now more than ever, families need the support of Build Back Better. Democrats have long been proud champions of America's working families. For them, Democrats Deliver!
It is with great appreciation that I commend the many Members who have hosted hundreds of events in their districts, bringing the good news of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law across the country. Let us salute the tireless leadership of DPCC Chairs Matt Cartwright, Debbie Dingell, Ted Lieu and Joe Neguse for their important work in coordinating this effort. It is imperative that American families know how this once-in-a-generation investment in infrastructure will improve their lives. I urge all of our Members to join in barnstorming the nation in the weeks ahead.
As we talk about the historic achievements on infrastructure, we must continue to emphasize the American Rescue Plan, which got shots in arms, money in pockets, workers safely on the job and children safely back at school. And now, we intend to Build Back Better and enshrine President Biden's spectacular vision for the future into law.
Thank you for your longstanding leadership For The People.
