Pelosi Remarks at Photo Opportunity for Friendly Wager on 49ers-Chiefs Super Bowl
Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi held a photo opportunity today with Congressman Emanuel Cleaver (D-MO) following the friendly wager made for Super Bowl LIV between the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs. Below are the Speaker's remarks:
Speaker Pelosi. Good morning, everyone. I'm very honored to be standing here with my colleague, Congressman Cleaver, former Mayor of Kansas City, now Representative in Congress of Kansas City – very proud of his Kansas City Chiefs, as well he should be.
They played a great game, and they beat a mighty championship team. I'm very proud of the San Francisco 49ers. Our slogan is, ‘Faithful then, faithful now.' Always faithful to our team, and that's the excitement of America – that we all, whatever our differences are, get behind our teams, but at the end of the day, we're all Team America.
I was frankly sad that we lost. I was also sad that I wasn't going to be enjoying some Kansas City barbeque. Maybe we can arrange something, but in the meantime, I wanted to convey to you some products from California: chocolate candy, of course Ghirardelli, and See's and some pistachios and some almonds and the rest of that. Mr. Cleaver and I are not – do not engage in drinking alcohol, so I did not have California wine in the basket, because I wanted to pack it with what he could truly enjoy.
Congratulations to you, Mr. Cleaver. Congratulations to the Kansas City Chiefs. They played a great game, and as I said, they beat my home championship team as well.
Congratulations.
