House Republican Whip Steve Scalise today bluntly affirmed that the Export-Import Bank is "on track to" expire – despite it being responsible for the 1.2 million American jobs it has created since 2009 and risking the economic livelihood of hardworking middle-class families.  On top of that, this careless rhetoric runs counter to…

…28 Republican and Democratic Governors who say "failure to act will place American industries at a significant disadvantage in the global marketplace and harm businesses in our states";

Senate Republicans and U.S. Conference of Mayors urging reauthorization;

the billions in economic benefits the Ex-Im Bank brings to the United States economy, including those reflected in Whip Scalise's district:

o   $628 million in total export value;

o   Dozens of exporters, including minority and women-owned businesses.

Whip Scalise and House Republicans seem intent on killing the Ex-Im Bank and risking hundreds of thousands of jobs created by exporting companies that rely on the Ex-Im Bank – but are quick to pass a $269 billion massive tax break for only 0.2% of Americans.

As the Seattle Times Editorial Board noted: "Congress should rescue the Export-Import Bank from a battle between politics and pragmatism that could cost American companies billions."  House GOP – now is not the time to weaken the U.S. economy by killing export-led job growth.  There is never a right time to destroy American jobs.
