Pelosi Statement on 8th Anniversary of American Recovery & Reinvestment Act

February 17, 2017
Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement marking the eight-year anniversary of the signing of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act by President Obama on February 17, 2009:

"The eighth anniversary of the signing of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act marks another milestone failure in the Trump Administration's empty promises on jobs.

"By the same time in President Obama's Administration, eight years ago, Democrats had already enacted the largest job-creation package in a generation – creating or saving more than four million jobs through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act's bold investments in infrastructure, energy and innovation.  But four weeks into the Trump Administration, Republicans still have not lifted a finger to create more good-paying jobs for hard-working Americans.

"The American people have a question for President Trump and the Republican Congress: where are the jobs bills?  The Republican Congress has found time to undermine women's reproductive rights, to enable polluters, to enable Wall Street's abuses and weaken workers' retirement savings – but no action to create good-paying jobs and no action to raise wages.  While Republicans fight for the special interests, House Democrats will continue to demand real, robust action to create good-paying jobs for everyone, everywhere in our great country."
