GOP Tax Bill Scams Minimum Wage Workers

Blog Post
Earlier this month, Speaker Ryan touted a school secretary who saw only a $1.50 increase in her paycheck from the GOP tax scam. Unfortunately, millions of hard-working Americans earning the minimum wage aren't doing much better.

Thanks to the GOP tax scam, corporations are pocketing a tax break worth over $100 billion this year alone, and the average person in the wealthiest 1 percent is getting a $51,000 tax cut every year.  But here's a state-by-state look, using the Tax Policy Center's Tax Calculator, at what an unmarried worker without kids working a full-time minimum wage job can expect from the GOP tax scam in their paychecks:

  • In the 21 states with the federal minimum wage, these workers are receiving only $5.50 more in each biweekly paycheck.
  • In 37 states, these workers are receiving less than $6.00 more in each biweekly paycheck.
  • In 47 states, these workers are receiving less than $9.00 more in each biweekly paycheck.
