Pelosi Statement on January Jobs Report
Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement on the January jobs report:
"The anemic January jobs report is proof that the tepid economic recovery is stalling out, and that Democrats' big, bold action to defeat the coronavirus pandemic and economic crisis is urgently needed.
"Job gains are decelerating by month, with the jobs deficit today bigger than it was at the worst point of the Great Recession. Millions remain unemployed long-term, hundreds of thousands have left the jobforce altogether and our heroes in state and local government are continuing to lose jobs as they work to save lives.
"Today, we will pass a final budget resolution that paves the way to passage of a landmark coronavirus rescue package that will do what is needed to save lives and livelihoods: putting money in people's pockets, vaccinations in people's arms, children back in school and Americans back to work. We continue to encourage Republicans to join us in supporting real relief for the communities that are suffering.
"The need for action could not be more urgent, and Americans cannot afford further delay. Listening to our constituents, respecting President Biden's proposal to meet their needs, we must work together to save their lives and livelihoods."
