Pelosi Statement on Passing of Secretary George Shultz

Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement on the passing of George Shultz:

"The world has lost a revered statesman and brilliant public servant with the passing of Secretary George Shultz. George Shultz dedicated his life to promoting a more peaceful and secure future, and his work to advance democracy worldwide leaves a powerful legacy for generations to come.

"George was known and esteemed as a person of honor. While we disagreed on issues including the Central American wars and the use of force in Iraq in 2003, I always respected him for his integrity and patriotism.

"Personally, Paul and I greatly valued his and Charlotte's friendship. We were honored to celebrate his birthdays, and this year, to receive his birthday present sent to his friends of a coin reading: ‘honesty is the currency of the realm.'

"George and Charlotte have been a respected force for good in our community and country, and he will be greatly missed by many. May it be a comfort to Charlotte, his five children and the entire Shultz family that people the world over mourn with and pray for them during this sad time."
