Pelosi Statement on Senate Confirmation of HUD Secretary Marcia Fudge
Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement after the U.S. Senate voted to confirm Congresswoman Marcia Fudge of Ohio to serve as Secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development:
"Today is a proud day for the Congress and the Country, as Representative Marcia Fudge assumes the important position of Secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Amid this time of pandemic and economic crisis, Secretary Fudge will be a force of justice and progress: protecting families facing eviction, combating homelessness, promoting fair housing and addressing the crisis of affordable housing in America.
"Secretary Fudge is a proven champion for fairness and equality in America. In Congress, she has been a leading voice in Democrats' work to strengthen our democracy, through her leadership of the House Administration Committee Subcommittee on Elections. And she has helped ensure equity and opportunity for America's children as the Chair of the Agriculture Subcommittee on Nutrition, Oversight and Department Operations as well as with her leadership on the Education and Labor Subcommittee on Early Childhood, Elementary and Secondary Education.
"House Democrats look forward to working with Secretary Fudge in our shared mission to Build Back Better For The People: advancing justice, progress and opportunity for Americans in every zip code."
