Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced that her virtual guest to President Biden's first State of the Union address will be Meg-Anne Pryor, District Apprenticeship Coordinator of Operating Engineers Local 3 union in San Francisco.
"When President Biden delivers his first State of the Union address tomorrow, he will share directly with the American people how his first-year agenda has powered an historic economic recovery – and how his vision for the future will continue to create jobs and lower costs for families," Speaker Nancy Pelosi said. "That is why it is my privilege to have as my virtual State of the Union guest Meg-Anne Pryor, a proud San Franciscan union member and a barrier-breaker in organized labor who knows firsthand the importance of investing in American workers.
"A daughter of the Bayview, Meg-Anne got her start as an apprentice in San Francisco and benefitted greatly from San Francisco's early workforce development initiatives – and she has risen quickly through the ranks of organized labor to make our City proud. Today, she is giving back to those following in her footsteps: mentoring working women and helping connect hundreds of workers to apprenticeship opportunities in the Bay Area. Meg-Anne embodies this essential truth: when women succeed, America succeeds!
"Meg-Anne has an intimate understanding of how the historic investments under President Biden's Bipartisan Infrastructure Law will be game-changing for America's working families: bringing good-paying union jobs and stronger, more sustainable infrastructure to communities across our country. Her story also serves as a testament to the power of organized labor and the importance of dealing working families back in as President Biden and the Democratic Congress continue our work to build a brighter, fairer future for all."
Speaker Pelosi's virtual guest, Meg-Anne Pryor, is the first Black woman to serve as a District Apprentice Coordinator in Operating Engineers Local 3 Union history. She began her career as an apprentice and a journeywoman, and she has benefitted from workforce development training through San Francisco's City Build initiative. She is now responsible for mentoring and guiding apprentices in District 1 of the Operators, which covers San Francisco and the surrounding area. Operating Engineers Local 3 represents more than 37,000 workers across four states and is the largest construction trades local union in the United States.
