Sunday Morning Shows: Republicans Book Themselves for Failure

Blog Post
It was a brutal morning for Speaker Ryan and Republicans who took to the Sunday shows to sell their terrible #PayMoreForLess bill.

In short, none of them were on the same page: Speaker Ryan admitted he was unaware about the exact number of Americans who would lose their quality health coverage; Senate Republicans warned the House GOP against passing their terrible bill; OMB Director Mick Mulvaney said millions of Americans being covered wasn't imperative; and HHS Secretary Tom Price mislead Americans about ACA's health coverage, pretended everything was going according to plan and predicted health coverage would increase even though that's flat out false.  It was monstrously painful to watch.

On CBS' Face the Nation with John Dickerson:

The Hill  – Ryan: 'Can't answer' how many will lose health coverage under GOP plan

House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) said the number of people who will lose insurance under the GOP's proposed healthcare plan will depend on the choices of individuals.

"I can't answer that question," Ryan told CBS News's "Face the Nation," when asked how many people will lose healthcare coverage...

CBS News – Rand Paul: Conservatives "not going to vote for" GOP health care plan

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Kentucky) hasn't been shy about his issues with the Republican health care overhaul plan -- and on Sunday, he said congressional conservatives are "not going to vote for it."

ON ABC's This Week with George Stephanopoulos:

ABC News Republican senator: GOP risks losing House majority if health bill approved

Republican Sen. Tom Cotton said GOP members of the House should not "walk the plank" by approving the Republican health care bill, warning that it could cost the party the House majority and put the entire GOP agenda at risk.

ABC News– Trump budget chief: President is focused on health care, not insurance coverage

White House budget director Mick Mulvaney said critics of the new GOP health care bill should not be too "worried about getting people coverage."

On NBC's Meet the Press with Chuck Todd:

NBC News – 'Nobody Will Be Worse Off' Under GOP Health Plan: HHS' Price

No one will be adversely affected by the Republicans' new health care bill once its enacted, according to Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price, NBC News reported.

"There's cost that needs to come down, and we believe we're going to be able to do that through this system," he added. "There's coverage that's going to go up."

What happens to our people's health coverage, as the Washington Post notes, "depends whom you ask in Republican leadership..."

Speaker Ryan and Republicans can appear on as many shows as they'd like and try to dispute the awful bill, but they can't hide their dysfunction or fool the American people about how their legislation will mean nothing but less coverage, fewer protections and higher costs.
