Pelosi Statement on the Passing of Congressman Eligio ‘Kika’ de la Garza, II

March 15, 2017
Washington, D.C. – House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi today released this statement on the passing of Congressman Eligio ‘Kika' de la Garza, who passed away this week at age 89:

"Congressman Eligio ‘Kika' de la Garza was a proud champion of hard-working American families in Texas and in the Congress.  His patriotism and public service embodied the best of America.

"Congressman de la Garza fought for our country in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Army and served with distinction in the Texas State House and in the U.S. House of Representatives.   As House Agriculture Committee Chairman for 14 years, he built a record as an effective legislator and strong advocate for rural America and farmers.  Throughout his decades of public service, including as Chairman of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, Congressman de la Garza fought for the resources families need to build a stronger America for all.

"May it be a source of comfort to the Garza family and all who loved Kika that so many join in celebrating the life of this extraordinary American."
