McCarthy is Desperate to Distract from the American Rescue Plan – Even in His Home District
NYT: McCarthy Heads to El Paso to ‘Change The Subject’
People across the country love the American Rescue Plan – and Minority Leader McCarthy's home district is no exception.
That may be why McCarthy is desperately trying to distract Americans from the fact that every single House Republican voted to block a relief bill that delivers vaccines in arms, money in pockets, children back in school safely and people back in jobs.
After a weekend of watching local coverage of the American Rescue Plan's benefits for his hometown of Bakersfield, it's no wonder McCarthy is trying to change the channel.
Below is a sampling of what McCarthy's own constituents heard about the Rescue Plan this weekend:
NBC Bakersfield: "The IRS is already depositing stimulus checks in bank accounts across the country. The checks are part of the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan...Every Republican lawmaker voted against the bill – including Bakersfield Congressman Kevin McCarthy who says it's too expensive."
FOX Bakersfield: Community Action Partnership Of Kern: We do know the funding from this bill will help the people we serve."
CBS Bakersfield: "American Airlines is cancelling furloughs now that Congress gave them a financial boost…those notices [of furlough] can be torn up since the House passed the American Rescue Plan Wednesday."
ABC Bakersfield: "Stimulus checks are on the way for Americans and President Biden is offering a message of hope. A look at his plans to revive the financial burden across the nation."
