Pelosi Statement on Senate Confirmation of Interior Secretary Deb Haaland

Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement after the U.S. Senate voted to confirm Congresswoman Deb Haaland of New Mexico to serve as Secretary of the Department of the Interior:

"The confirmation of Secretary Deb Haaland is a strong step forward in Democrats' mission to advance a sustainable clean energy future in America with equity and justice for all. Secretary Haaland's confirmation is historic, and it is a source of pride for the House.

"Secretary Haaland is a respected leader in the Congress and Indian Country, who brings a unique and important perspective to our work to safeguard America's natural heritage. As a Native American woman, an advocate and as the Vice Chair of the House Natural Resources Committee and the Chair of the Subcommittee on National Parks, Forests and Public Lands, her experience will serve her and the American people well in her new role.
