Pelosi Statement on the Passing of Former Congressman Vic Fazio

March 16, 2022

Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement after the passing of former Congressman Victor "Vic" Fazio of California:

"Today, California, the Congress and the Country have lost a dedicated public servant. During his two decades in the House, Congressman Vic Fazio was a respected Member: leading masterfully within our Caucus, working devotedly to strengthen our beloved institution and fighting relentlessly for his Sacramento community.

"Serving for ten years in House Democratic Leadership, including four years as Caucus Chair, Congressman Fazio was a force in helping unite and rally our Members in the fight for America's families. As Chair of the Legislative Branch subcommittee of the powerful Appropriations Committee, he was a champion for Members, staff and institutional workers – ensuring they had the resources to continue working For The People. Because he was also a passionate defender of California's natural environment, it is a fitting tribute that the Vic Fazio Yolo Wildlife Area will stand for generations as a refuge for our beautiful wildlife.

"Personally, I will miss Congressman Vic Fazio as a close friend and a fellow Northern Californian. May it be a comfort to his wife Kathy, his daughter Dana and step-children Kevin and Kristie, and his three grandchildren Kendra, Karly and Keira, that so many in our state and across the nation pray for them during this sad time."
