Ask McCarthy: Have You Given Up on Attacking the American Rescue Plan?
NBC News: Republicans ‘No Longer Even Trying To Message’ on COVID Relief
With 2.4 million vaccinations per day and 90 million Americans with stimulus money in their pockets, Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy must be asked: has he given up on messaging against the American Rescue Plan?
McCarthy convinced House Republicans to vote unanimously against getting vaccines in arms, money in pockets, children back in school safely, and people back in jobs. House Democrats – and the positive Rescue Plan headlines splashed across the front pages of newspapers acrossRepublicandistricts – aren't going to let him change the subject.
McCarthy's trying to avoid accountability for trying to block essential COVID relief…and others have noticed:
"Asked if they would run against the bill next year, the House minority leader, Kevin McCarthy, said, "There's going to be a lot of things we run against.'… And by the end of the week, Mr. McCarthy announced he and a group of House Republicans would travel to the border on Monday in a bid to highlight the problem there — and change the subject."
Faced with President Joe Biden's early popularity, good news about vaccinations, and Americans' embrace of the COVID-19 relief bill Washington Republicans opposed, the GOP is leaning in on the highly charged issue amid a spike in border crossings.
"Republicans, meanwhile, are no longer even trying to message on the coronavirus and the Covid-19 relief law — and they're instead focused on immigration…..Republicans have taken their eye off a pandemic that's killed more than 500,000 Americans, and when it comes to the economy, they're arguing that a boom was coming even before Biden's stimulus."
"Democrats are relentlessly hyping President Joe Biden's $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief bill, while Republicans are trying to change the subject to Dr. Seuss, Mr. Potato Head and the Mexican border."
