Trump Madness: Dysfunction, Controversy and Utter Chaos

March 25, 2017
Blog Post
Don't believe the hype. The Trump Administration is once again spinning alternative facts like its SoulCycle. But the reality is that this week will go down in presidential history as one of the worst. It was mired in dysfunction, controversy and utter chaos. But don't take our word for it.

  • UNPRECEDENTED INVESTIGATION INTO TRUMP-KREMLIN TIES. FBI Director Comey confirmed an investigation into possible coordination between the Trump campaign and Russia, and whether the trump campaign coordinated with the Russians to undermine the 2016 presidential election.  The American people want and deserve to know what is Russia's political, personal and financial grip on the Trump Administration.  A recent poll found that:
  • 66% of Americans said they wanted an independent commission to investigate the links between Trump campaign advisers and the Russian government;
  • 65% percent think alleged Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election is either "very important" or "somewhat important;" and
  • 63% said they were "very concerned" or "somewhat concerned" about Trump's relationship with Russia.

  • YOU LIKE ME, YOU REALLY LIKE ME … SIKE! President Trump's job approval rating is in a death spiral, hitting a record low at 37%.  According to the Quinnipiac poll:
  • 60% of Americans think he's dishonest:
  • 55% think he doesn't have good leadership skills
  • 57% think he doesn't care about average Americans; and
  • 66% think he's not level-headed.

  • TRUMPCARE FAILSHouse GOP pulled the TrumpCare bill from the House floor – and for good reason. It would have stripped 24 million Americans of their health coverage, forced American families to pay more for less coverage, shortened the life of the Medicare Trust Fund by 3 years, and forced Americans aged 50-64 to pay premiums five times higher. ONLY 17% of voters supported TrumpCare, while 43% want the GOP to slow down on replacing the Affordable Care Act.

  • UNDERMINING THE CREDIBILITY OF THE OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT. FBI Director Comey slapped down Trump's reckless allegation that his predecessor wiretapped him in Trump tower.  "With respect to the President's tweets and alleged wiretapping directed at him by the prior administration, I have no information that supports those tweets …," Comey testified on Monday. He also added that "the answer is the same for the Department of Justice and all its components."  The Wall Street Journal editorialized that President Trump is doing serious damage to "his Presidency with his seemingly endless stream of exaggerations, evidence-free accusations, implausible denials and other falsehoods" … and cautioned that if he "doesn't show more respect for the truth most Americans may conclude he's a fake President."

  • EVIDENCE OF TIES BETWEEN TRUMP OFFICIALS AND MOSCOW CONTINUES TO GROW. The Associated Press released a damning report that Paul Manafort, Trump's one-time campaign manager, had received tens of millions of dollars to aid Russian President Vladimir Putin. Less than 48-hours later the House Intel Committee announced Manafort volunteered to be interviewed by the panel. When pressed on questions about Manafort and the Trump campaign colluding with the Russians, Spicer tried it, lashing out and falsely claiming that the former campaign manager played a "limited" role. Those alternative facts have a way of rearing their pretty little head at the most opportune time for Spicer. Lucky guy.

  • BLING, BLING.  The unusually complicated and lavish lifestyle of the Trump family is going to cost American taxpayers $60 million additional dollars. Nearly half of the increased funds, $26.8 million, would help fortify and protect the family's three-floor Manhattan penthouse in Trump Towers. According to the Washington Post, the Secret Service's request is the "most precise estimate yet of the escalating costs for travel and protection" for the Trump Family. President Trump has spent most of his weekends golfing at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida since the inauguration, and his sons travel the world promoting Trump properties with Secret Service agents in tow. Where are the GOP budget hawks when you need them?

  • NO JOBS, JOBS, JOBS.  64 days into the Trump administration and still NO JOBS bill.
