Pelosi Statement on New Estimates of GOP ‘Pay More For Less’ Bill Consequences

March 9, 2017
Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement on estimates from the Brookings Institution suggesting that 15 million Americans will lose coverage under the Republican "Pay More For Less" bill and estimates from the Commonwealth Fund suggesting that 30 million people will be hit with Republicans' Millennial Penalty surcharge for re-enrolling after an interruption in coverage:

"Republicans are racing their disastrous health bill forward before the CBO can expose its consequences to the American people, but they can't hide from the facts forever.  The latest estimates show that at least 15 million Americans will lose their health coverage.  Thirty million people will be hit with the 30 percent premium surcharge of Republicans' Millennial Penalty – a provision placing a heavy new burden on young adults, the population most likely to face a brief lapse in coverage when changing jobs or moving.

"Between the Millennial Penalty and the Age Tax, Republicans plan to force young and old to pay more for less in their health care.  Families across America are going to be pushed off their health coverage just so Republicans can hand a huge tax break to billionaires.

"The more we learn, the more we see that the Republican Pay More For Less health bill will be a disaster for the American people."
