Pelosi Statement on March Jobs Report

April 1, 2022

Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement on the March jobs report, which showed that the U.S. created 431,000 jobs last month:

"The March jobs report shows that Democrats' economic strategy continues to power a strong jobs recovery, with Americans coming off the sidelines and getting back to work. Since President Biden took office, our nation has created 7.9 million new jobs – including nearly half a million manufacturing jobs – and slashed the unemployment rate to near pre-pandemic levels at 3.6 percent with the help of our American Rescue Plan. At the same time American workers' wages are on the rise, especially among lower wage earners.

"Democrats remain laser-focused on working to lower costs for America's families as they face Putin's Price Hike. This week, our Democratic Majority passed legislation to cap families' out-of-pocket cost of insulin at $35 per month, a strong step toward bringing down prescription drug prices across the board. The House also took another step toward enacting our competitiveness bill, which will help bring down prices for consumers by making more goods in America, strengthening our supply chains, reinvigorating our research and development, and including more Americans in our STEM workforce. As President Biden takes strong action to help lower gas prices by releasing more oil from our strategic reserve, Democrats in Congress also continue to work on legislation to lower prices at the pump.

"President Biden and the Democratic Congress are Building a Better America For The People: lowering costs, growing paychecks and creating jobs for families while ensuring the richest few pay their fair share."
