Pelosi Statement Celebrating Israeli Independence Day

"Seventy years ago, the world marked the founding of the State of Israel.  Today, Israel stands as a shining example of ingenuity, perseverance and hope.

"The unbreakable bonds of friendship between the United States and Israel are deeply rooted in our shared history, common values and commitment to democracy.  As in our own founding, the promise of freedom, equality and justice are woven into the very foundations of the Jewish State.  As Israel and all its supporters celebrate this important milestone, we recommit ourselves to this promise and the advancement of the rights of all who call Israel home.  On this important day, it is also critical that we rededicate ourselves to the ongoing struggle for an enduring peace in the region and a viable, lasting two-state solution to ensure the prosperous future for Israelis and Palestinians.

"As we celebrate Israel's 70th Independence Day, we remember its hard-won victories and continued struggles, and we look forward to a future of continued growth and prosperity."
