On NBC's Meet the Press, Leader Pelosi to House GOP: Burden to Keep Government Open is on You
She also hit the Trump Administration on the opposition Democrats and Republicans alike have for building and funding a border wall on the backs of taxpayers, and made clear that the burden of keeping the government open for the American people falls solely on the GOP.
Below are the highlights.
On the Trump Administration Demanding Funding for a Border Wall:
"The Democrats do not support the wall... the Republicans on the border states do not support the wall."
"Building a wall is not an answer, not here or any place."
"The wall, in my view, is immoral, expensive, unwise – and when the President says, 'Well I promised a wall during my campaign' I don't think he said, 'I would pass billions of dollars of costs of the wall onto the taxpayer.'"
On Keeping the Government Open:
"The Republicans have the votes in the House and the Senate and the White House to keep government open. The burden to keep it open is on the Republicans."
On Unity in the Democratic Party:
"Our values unify us. We are unified with our commitment to America's working families about job creation, about budget policies that invest in the future, good-paying jobs – and that's what we'd like to see a debate on vis-à-vis the President of the United States."
"This is about job creation, job creation for the middle class and working families and those who aspire to it – that is what unifies Democrats."
On Trump's Broken Promise to Fix American Infrastructure:
"He promised jobs – show us the jobs. Where's his infrastructure bill? There were many promises, promises made and broken."
"Where's the infrastructure bill? The President was supposed to have an infrastructure bill coming, a very strong infrastructure bill. The infrastructure bill is one of the biggest secrets in Washington, D.C. second only to the President not showing us his tax returns."
