April 25, 2018
Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi issued this statement on French President Emmanuel Macron's address to Congress:

"Since our declarations of freedom were presented, the United States and France have enshrined the values of freedom and respect for human rights into our democracies. In the course of our countries' history, we have acted upon these values both at home and abroad. In his address to the Congress today, President Macron made an elegant declaration of those values.

"President Macron provided a powerful presentation on our shared responsibility to protect our planet when he said that together we must ‘make our planet great again.' America will one day reclaim our leadership in the historic Paris Climate Accord.

"President Macron also declared that France will stand by the historic Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action and will continue to work to ensure that Iran never obtains a nuclear weapon. With the JCPOA as one of four pillars, President Macron articulated a path to a more comprehensive agreement that addresses the continuing concerns about Iran's nefarious behavior.

"With his values-based presentation and definitive statements on protecting our climate and stopping nuclear proliferation, President Macron demonstration the quality of his leadership and gave voice to principles that join our two nations."
