Pelosi Statement on Final CMS Report on 2018 Affordable Care Act Enrollment

"The 2018 CMS report provides fresh evidence of the needless premium increases due to Republicans' sabotage and the power of the Affordable Care Act to protect families from skyrocketing costs.

"From day one of the Trump Administration, Republicans have cynically worked to raise families' health costs and destroy the promise of affordable health coverage and care for all. They worked to derail the marketplaces, reduce enrollment, dismantle protections, and take away millions of Americans' health coverage with Trumpcare. Sadly, middle class families have borne the brunt of the GOP's spiteful assault on Americans' health care and the needless 30 percent premium increases it has caused.

"Thankfully, 83 percent of those who enrolled in 2018 were either partially or fully shielded from Republicans' premium hikes by the protections of the Affordable Care Act. Even as Republicans cynically raised health insurance premiums, the millions of Americans with the ACA's affordability subsidies saw their average monthly payments decrease. And despite President Trump maliciously cutting the enrollment period in half, enrollment held at almost 97 percent of last year's.

"Republicans need to stop trying to take away Americans' health care, and work constructively with Democrats to improve the Affordable Care Act, drive down premiums, and lower the cost of prescription drugs."
