Pelosi Statement on the Passing of Former Senator Daniel Akaka

"For more than 30 years, Daniel Akaka represented the people of Hawaii with honor and dignity.  Whether bravely serving in the South Pacific during WWII, in the halls of Congress or as the first Native Hawaiian to serve in the U.S. Senate, Daniel Akaka's patriotism and commitment to public service embodied our nation's highest ideals.  His legacy of action and activism represent the best of America.
