April 6, 2022

Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement after President Biden nominated Jaime Lizárraga, who currently serves as Senior Advisor in the Office of the Speaker, to serve as a Commissioner at the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC):

"President Biden's nomination of Jaime Lizárraga to serve as SEC Commissioner is an appointment of a devoted champion of working families and a lifelong public servant. As Commissioner, Jaime will be a force in safeguarding the interests of the investing public, improving transparency in our financial markets and building a more equitable financial future for all.

"During the fourteen years he has served as Senior Advisor, Jaime has played an integral role in enacting some of the most consequential economic legislation in a generation. His work includes stabilizing markets during the financial meltdown in 2008 with the TARP legislation, the Dodd-Frank Act reforms strengthening oversight of Wall Street and our financial system, multiple COVID relief packages and the transformative Build Back Better Act. Jaime has served as a valuable asset to the Congress and our Caucus on financial markets, national housing and small business policy. He has also been a leading voice on Puerto Rico debt restructuring and immigration reform.

"While he will be deeply missed in the Congress, our nation will benefit greatly from Jaime's continued public service. He brings a strategic mind, strong values and wide-ranging expertise to the SEC. On behalf of the Congress, I congratulate him on his well-deserved recognition and wish him much success in this new role."
