Pelosi Statement on Trump Administration’s Domestic Gag Rule on Title X

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement today following news reports that the Administration will soon announce President Trump's Domestic Gag Rule on Title X, which would have the effect of denying access to health care and family planning services to many vulnerable families:

"The Trump Administration is moving yet again to take away women's basic health rights.

"Imposing a domestic ‘gag rule' on American health providers is an outrageous assault on the health care available to vulnerable and underserved women and families across America. Make no mistake: the practical consequence of the Trump Administration's gag rule will be to end access to affordable contraception and preventive health care for millions of underserved women across the country.

"Title X is the only federal grant program dedicated to providing family planning services to low-income and otherwise underserved individuals. Yet again, Republicans have revealed their contempt for women's health care in their obsession with defunding Planned Parenthood.

"The Trump Administration and the GOP Congress continue to double down on their attack on women's health, from pushing a rule to allow employers to control whether or not their birth control is covered, to waging an all-out assault on Planned Parenthood's preventive care, to cynically raising their health premiums and sabotaging their quality health care. Democrats will continue to fight to ensure that all women, including vulnerable women, have access to basic health care and affordable, vital family planning services."
