Trump's Budget Breaks Promise to Protect Medicaid, Social Security (and maybe Medicare???)

On the campaign trail, President Trump repeatedly promised to be a champion for Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security.  In a move of striking deceit against hard-working American families, the Trump budget proposal released today reveals President Trump's proposal to cut Medicaid by $1.4 trillion and Social Security's disability benefits by tens of billions.

When asked about the budget's cuts to Social Security, Mulvaney told reporters that Social Security disability benefits – and the people who depend on them – don't really count.

Director Mulvaney: "[Social Security Disability Insurance] is not what most people would consider to be Social Security."

Peter Alexander (NBC): "So will any of those individuals who presently receive SSDI receive less as a result of this budget?"

Director Mulvaney: "I hope so"

Trump's Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin – who told reporters in February that "we're not touching [entitlements]" in the budgetwas asked this morning about the President's about face on protecting Medicaid.

"The Medicaid reductions and what's gone on -- what the President is trying to do is control healthcare costs."

And just in case anyone thought Medicare was out of the woods, in his interview at the Peter Peterson Foundation this morning, Secretary Mnuchin couldn't say that it wouldn't be cut eventually:

Ylan Q. Mui? @ylanmui

In interview with @JohnJHarwood, Mnuchin declines to say that Trump will not touch Medicare

The budget is a statement of values, and President Trump's broken promises have once again shown he does not value the future of children and working families.
