Pelosi Statement on Appointment of Congressman Antonio Delgado as New York Lieutenant Governor

May 3, 2022

San Francisco — Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement on the appointment of Congressman Antonio Delgado to serve as Lieutenant Governor of New York:

"During his distinguished service in the House, Congressman Antonio Delgado has been a committed champion for security and opportunity for New York families — whether upstate or downstate. A son of Schenectady, he will continue to be a force for his beloved home state when he is sworn in to serve as New York's next Lieutenant Governor.

"In Congress, Congressman Delgado has earned the respect of his colleagues for working across the aisle on eighteen bills that have been signed into law by presidents of both parties, from strengthening financial aid for college students to delivering more benefits for veterans. Congressman Delgado's community has greatly benefited from his strong voice for family farmers as Chair of House Agriculture Subcommittee on Commodity Exchanges, Energy and Credit. A valued leader on the Small Business Committee and the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, he has fought for more resources to clean up PFAS chemicals, support for small businesses, expanded broadband access and much more. His leadership is marked by his commitment to hearing the voices of his constituents at his prolific town halls across his district.

"Personally, I will miss Congressman Delgado, his wife Lacey and his family when he departs from the House. Officially, I extend congratulations on behalf of his many friends in the Congress. The people of New York will be well-served by his intellectual brilliance, tireless work ethic, strong values and his extraordinary talent for communicating with his constituents. He and Governor Kathy Hochul will make a terrific team, and we wish him all the best in his continued public service as Lieutenant Governor."
