Pelosi Statement on April Jobs Report
San Francisco – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement on the April jobs report, which showed that the U.S. created 428,000 jobs last month:
"As April's expectations-beating jobs report makes even clearer, Democrats' economic plan has powered record-setting jobs creation — the strongest job growth in modern times. Thanks largely to the American Rescue Plan, Americans are getting back to work in record numbers under the Biden Administration: with 8.3 million new jobs created, unemployment plummeting to 3.6 percent and wages on the rise.
"Now, Democrats are laser-focused on bringing down the costs families are grappling with at their kitchen tables. As Americans confront Putin's Price Hike, the Democratic Congress is advancing legislation to lower prices at the pump, including by holding Big Oil accountable for price gouging and war profiteering. House Democrats are also working to lower food costs, shining a bright light on the unfair practices of meatpacking conglomerates that are both hurting ranchers and pushing up prices in the grocery aisle. Our House Majority has also passed legislation to cap insulin copays at $35 a month to help ease this burdensome cost for millions of families, as part of our broader fight to enact into law House action to bring down prescription drug prices across the board. Meanwhile, we are moving toward sending to the President's desk a bold, bipartisan, bicameral competitiveness bill that will bring down prices for consumers by making more goods in America, strengthening supply chains, and reinvigorating research and development.
"Democrats are For The People – and we will never stop fighting to lower costs, increase paychecks and create jobs for America's families."
