Pelosi Statement on Senate Passage of PACT Act

June 16, 2022

Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement after the Senate passed the bipartisan PACT Act, to help veterans exposed to toxins access health care services:

"Senate passage of the bipartisan PACT Act is an historic victory for America's veterans, their families and caregivers, and for our nation. With this life-saving legislation, we open up access to VA health care to 3.5 million Post-9/11 combat veterans potentially exposed to deadly toxins, while granting presumptions of exposure for veterans with rare cancers and other debilitating diseases. Importantly, this legislation includes the Camp Lejeune Justice Act to allow veterans and their loved ones to seek damages related to injuries incurred while serving at Camp Lejeune.

"The House will now move swiftly to take up this legislation and send it to President Biden's desk for his signature.

"Thank you to President Biden, Chairs Mark Takano and Jon Tester, Secretary McDonough and countless veterans and advocates, whose unyielding leadership on this legislation honors this sacred pledge: just as the military leaves no soldier behind on the battlefield, we must leave no veteran behind when they come home."
