Pelosi Statement on the Passing of Jean Kennedy Smith
Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement on the death of former U.S. Ambassador to Ireland Jean Kennedy Smith:
"Ambassador Jean Kennedy Smith represented the best of American generosity, compassion and patriotism, and her passing is a great loss for our nation and the world.
"Ambassador Smith proudly carried on the Kennedy family commitment to being a voice for the voiceless throughout her life. As an advocate and a humanitarian, she was a champion for opportunity and inclusion who worked tirelessly to ensure that people living with disabilities had resources and support to live full and vibrant lives. As the U.S. Ambassador to Ireland, she played a critical role in advancing a peaceful and prosperous future for communities on both sides of the border.
"Ambassador Kennedy leaves behind an inspiring legacy of hope, peace and progress for people across the country and around the world. May it be a comfort to her children, Stephen Jr., William, Amanda and Kym, and the entire Kennedy family that so mourn their loss and are praying for them at this sad time."
