What You Should Know Before Trump Heads to South Carolina
June 25, 2018
Tonight, President Trump heads to Columbia, South Carolina to give what he calls a ‘campaign speech.'
But… we know what he'll actually do: tout misguided ‘accomplishments' like the GOP tax scam for the rich and sabotage of Americans' health care, while ignoring devastating impact of Republicans' agenda for hard-working families in South Carolina.
Below are some of cruel consequences of the policies Trump will be celebrating tonight:
- 116,800: South Carolina homeowners will lose their state and local tax deduction under the GOP tax scam for the rich.
- 130,000: South Carolina families that took out a home equity loan to pay for a child's education or family medical needs will pay more in taxes under the GOP tax scam for the rich.
- 2 million: South Carolinians who have pre-existing conditions currently protected by law that are jeopardized by the Trump Administration's demand that the courts to strike down protections for pre-existing conditions.
- 460,200: South Carolinians that would have lost health coverage by 2026 under the GOP House-passed Trumpcare bill.
- 289,500: South Carolinians with Medicaid would have lost health coverage under Trumpcare.
- 9,011: South Carolina workers would have lost their jobs by 2022 under Trumpcare.
- 12,400: Veterans in South Carolina that would have lost their Medicaid coverage under Trumpcare.
- $5,600: More for premiums South Carolinians could pay for coverage if they have diabetes under Trumpcare.
- $9,377: More older South Carolinians would have to pay because Trumpcare would allow insurers to charge people over age 50 five times more.
From health care, to taxes, to good-paying jobs, to critical consumer protections President Trump and the GOP Congress are giving the American people a raw deal.
Families in South Carolina and in every corner of the country deserve better. That's why Democrats are fighting for A Better Deal: Better Jobs, Better Wages, and a Better Future for everyone.
