House GOP's Latest Anti-Immigrant Push

June 26, 2018
Tomorrow, House Republicans will bring to the floor an unacceptable and inhumane immigration bill that doubles down on President Trump's mass deportation agenda and does nothing to address the immediate crisis of families separated at the border.

This offensive, draconian legislation is not only unlikely to pass the House, but it simply replaces one form of child abuse with another, and brazenly violates children's human rights.

Los Angeles Times: House to vote on an immigration bill Wednesday, but it's unlikely to help separated families at the border

After failing to pass a conservative immigration bill last week, the House is scheduled to vote Wednesday on a Republican-sponsored compromise bill that may not pass — and is almost certainly a nonstarter in the Senate even if it does.

The decision to push a broad immigration package gives lawmakers little time to address the immediate crisis of immigrant children separated from their parents at the border.

The current immigration bill would provide $25 billion to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, a Trump priority, and would make steep cuts to legal immigration programs.

Vox: House Republicans' "compromise" immigration push is actually very conservative

House Republicans are trying to rally support behind a GOP immigration bill … What this bill is not is a "compromise." On policy, this is an immigration proposal … that heeds President Donald Trump's hardline view of immigrants.

Needless to say, many of these demands would be nonstarters if they were working with Democrats. The bill is a "compromise" in name only — it's strategic branding on the part of Republican leadership, which desperately wants to show it can do something on the issue. More importantly, it is a sign of just how much Trump has changed the Republican Party's immigration debate.

Immigrants make America more American.  Democrats reject this anti-family legislation and call on House Republicans to finally show the moral courage to end their cruel campaign against immigrants, and to abandon these immoral policies.  We will never stop fighting to protect the newcomers who enrich and bless our nation.
