Pelosi Statement on the 10th Anniversary of the Post-9/11 GI Bill
"Nearly 75 years ago, our nation made an historic investment in our heroic WWII servicemembers with the first G.I. Bill, which transformed our economy and launched millions of American families into the middle class. Ten years ago, the Democratic-led Congress once again affirmed our responsibility to our nation's men and women in uniform when we passed the Post-9/11 GI bill, and restored the promise of a full, four-year college education for over a million Iraq and Afghanistan veterans and their families.
"Last year, we expanded on the Post-9/11 GI bill's vital protections by improving existing benefits, closing gaps in eligibility and expanding opportunities for Reservists, Guardsmen, Purple Heart recipients and surviving spouses and dependents. It was a deep honor to join Ranking Member Tim Walz and Committee Democrats to cosponsor this transformative legislation that strengthens the ability of our servicemembers, veterans and their families to grow and thrive.
"As the Trump Administration diverts critical resources from VA and fails to address the growing funding shortfall, House Democrats remain committed to holding the Administration accountable as they implement the Forever GI bill and ensure these expanded benefits are received in a timely and transformative fashion. We reaffirm today and every day our solemn pledge: just as the military leaves no one behind on the battlefield, we will leave no veteran behind at home."
