Pelosi Statement on Signing of VA MISSION Act

June 6, 2018
Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi issued this statement after the President signed H.R. 5674, the VA MISSION Act:

"Despite its bipartisan negotiation, the VA MISSION Act still lacks a sustainable source of funding, setting up another VA crisis and billions in budget cuts to critical veteran initiatives down the road.  Members of Congress in both the House and Senate have repeatedly offered a smart fix to avert this imminent crisis, yet President Trump has refused to support or offer any commonsense solution, proving his eagerness to put special interests ahead of the care and needs of those who served.

"President is clearly handing Koch Brothers-aligned special interests the keys to VA.  By opening the door to the demolition of veterans' health care, this Administration continues to fail veterans – from the lack of leadership at VA to the tens of thousands of job vacancies at the Department.

"The President and GOP Congress continue to turn their backs on the men and women who have bravely donned the uniform, pushing deep cuts to Medicaid, gutting SNAP and undermining vital protections for servicemembers and families against Wall Street's greed and abuse.  While Republicans careen from crisis to crisis at VA, Democrats will continue to fight for better health care for our veterans, and improve accessibility, reduce wait times and provide benefits to all who have served.  Just as the military pledges to leave no soldier behind on the battlefield, we must leave no veteran behind once they come home."
